Our first stop along the way is the historic town of Chester, where we began our day by walking across the sandstone city walls that were built to protect the city (which Luke had whinged about travelling to for the third time so far on the trip!). We reach the town centre and gaze at the beautifully crafted town hall and cathedral while munching on our cold sausage rolls and pies. After this munching we needed to have something to wash it down with so we stop at the coolest cafe - a Friends themed cafe aptly named Central Perk! They have heaps of Friends memorabilia inside, many TVs playing the show as well as cleverly named drinks featuring the characters. Much to Luke's amusement we spent an hour or so here taking photos and having a good laugh about the cafe.
Upwards and onwards we continue our journey through the countryside. Caitlin and I have fun playing spotty of the many castles we see along the way as well as trying to say the Welsh town names - which we were very unsuccessful in doing! Luke has a lightbulb moment where he realises that they actually do speak Welsh in Wales - what am i dealing with here! He is mind blown. Lauren (as usual) makes everyone jealous with her ability to have sneaky car power naps. zzzz's for days!
After about an hour and a half we reach the town of Conwy. The amazing castle sits upon a hill overlooking the water, with the great castle walls wrapping around the town. We look at the low tide and all the beached boats upon the shore.
We decide to go into the castle and climb up the steep staircase leading up to the piers, which gives a beautiful panoramic view of the city and water. Caitie shows the tower who is boss and we all make it up the spiral stairs up the top of the towers and take in the view of the town and sea. Luke bird watches - still perplexed at the size of the giant killer sized seagulls!
We're all castled out so we head to a nearby town named 'Betws y coed', where we are all so hungry we devour our food! I have the best club sandwich ever, and i'm pretty sure Lauren wanted to marry her cheese platter if she could!
Afterwards we go to the world's biggest garden maze, where we actually get lost for a good half an hr trying to find the centre. Caitlin takes the role of group leader and gets us to the centre!A last stop back through Conwy and we visit the UK's smallest house, then head on our way back home. An epic but fun day!!!
